We need to protect our children from school related attacks, but most of the time, school administrators do not know where to begin.
Here are a few tips to keep in mind.
D. O’Shall created theĀ 5 D’s of Security: Deter, Delay, Detect, Deny and Determine.
Deter – The investment must be made in high security hardware to keep a potential attacker out of the school.
Delay – Should the attacker get into the school, the next goal should be to create additional barriers of entry to delay their progress and give the school additional time to respond appropriately.
Detect – Invest in survillance equipment that allows the school to track the movement of the attacker at all times.
Deny – Create “safe zones” within the school that are exceptionally hard to penetrate.
Determine – Stay clam and determine the level of response that is needed. Abiding by the first 4 D’s of Security, a school should have enough time to create a plan to keep everyone safe.
